Alfa Barrels / Alfa Barra

After 2 weeks of small waves, finally Rio de Janeiro got a big swell!
This week we had great waves at Alfa Barra, best known as "Alfa Barrels".
The light wasn't ideal, but we were able to get some good shots.

Depois de duas semanas fracas de ondas, finalmente o Rio de Janeiro voltou a bombar.
Nesta semana tivemos ótimas ondas no Alfa Barra, mais conhecido como "ALFA BARRELS".
Apesar do dia não estar com a melhor luz do mundo deu para fazer um material bem legal.

On April 5th, the Hurley (www.hurley.com) team went to Barbados on a boat trip for Revista Surfar (www.revistasurfar.com.br/Portal2/index.asp).
The boat had on board the surfers: Diego Silva, Biel Garcia, Thiago Barcellos and Icaro Ronchi, and photographers Bidu (www.bidudigital.com.br) and Henrique Pinguim.
We decided to stay 14 days in Barbados. Unfortunately, the waves weren't as good as we had seen in previous photos and videos. But we had a lot of fun!
During the whole time we stayed there, we only surfed with onshore wind. Believe me if you can, 14 windy days, non-stop! The waves didn't get over 6 feet on the biggest day, and the wind kept strong.
Locals were not very friendly, but with clean warm water and sunny days, Barbados is a paradise!

No dia 5 de abril a equipe Hurley foi para Barbados fazer uma matéria para revista surfar (www.revistasurfar.com.br/Portal2/index.asp).
A barca foi composta pelos surfistas: Diego Silva, Biel Garcia, Thiago Barcellos e Icaro Ronchi e os fotógrafos: Bidu (www.bidudigital.com.br) e Henrique Pinguim.
Resolvemos ficar apenas 14 dias em Barbados para produzir a matéria . Apesar de nao termos pego as ondas que tínhamos visto em vídeos e fotos foi bem divertida a trip.
Infelizmente nestes 14 dias que ficamos em Barbados pegamos apenas com vento maral. Podem acreditar, 14 dias de vento, sem parar um minuto. No maior dia o mar nao passou de 6 pes, mas nada do vento melhorar.
Apesar da população local nao ser muito simpática o lugar é paradisíaco, água quente, bem transparente e sol.

Hawaiian Season / Temporada Havaiana

O Hawaii é o lugar muito especial para mim, e eu nao poderia deixar de passar meus invernos aqui.
Esse ano a temporada foi incrível. Três meses de Hawaii com certeza é muito bom, mesmo com os periodos sem onda.
Em janeiro, nao pararam de bombar picos como Pipeline, Off the Wall, Phantoms, Waimea e vários outter reefs.
Para voce ter uma idéia do quanto bombou esse ano, ate montaram a estrutura para o Eddie Aikau, o mais famoso campeonato de ondas grandes no mundo.
Como sempre os brasileiros representaram muito bem a nossa bandeira. (www.rodrigokoxa.com) , Gabriel Pastori, Felipe Gordo Cesarano, Pedro Scooby, Stephan Figueiredo (www.stephanfigueiredo.blogspot.com) (nosso capitão), Rafael Paiva, Dennis Tihara, Lucas Silveira e muitos outros que nao estou lembrando agora.
Nessa temporada, tiro o meu chapéu para o surfista da nova geração carioca LUCAS SILVEIRA. esse moleque de apenas 15 anos fez coisas que muita gente grande nao fez e nao vai fazer tao cedo.
Surfou em todos os dias em Pipelines que deram, todos od dias em Waimea e Phantoms, mostrando muita atitude e disposição. Parabéns Luquinhas, esta representando muito bem.

Hawaii is a very special place to me, and I love to come here for the winters.
This season was incredible. Three months in Hawaii is certainly very good, even with the flat spells.
In January, it was no stop for peaks as Pipeline, Off the Wall, Phantoms, Waimea and several outer reefs.
Just so you have an idea of how good was this year, even the structure for the Eddie Aikau (the most famous big wave contest in the world) was set up.
As always, the Brazilians represented our flag very well.
Congratulations to Danilo Couto, Rodrigo Koxa (www.rodrigokoxa.com) , Gabriel Pastori, Felipe Gordo Cesarani, Scooby Peter Stephan Figueiredo (www.stephanfigueiredo.blogspot.com) (our captain), Raphael Paiva, Dennis Tihara, Lucas Silveira and many other things I am not remembering now.
This season, I have to take my hat off to the new generation surfer from Rio, LUCAS SILVEIRA. This kid is just 15 years old, and does things that grown ups are afraid.
He surfed all the days in Pipeline, Waimea, and Phantoms, showing plenty of attitude and courage. Congratulations little Lucas, way to go!!!

Mexico / México

July and August is time for Puerto. Mexico is a great place to spend the summer in the northern hemisphere. Oaxaca is a amazing place, with a very laid back lifestyle. This year, the season in Puerto Escondido was very intense, with quite  a few large swells. It was a very positive experience in my life, and I pushed the level of my big wave surfing. It was really hard to catch the bombs on the largest days, and I was really happy with my overall performance. This year, I will push my limits in Puerto, and hope to catch some large barrels! Julho e Agosto é hora de Puerto. O México é um ótimo lugar para passar o verão no hemisfério norte. Oaxaca é um lindo lugar, com um estilo de vida muito descontraído. Este ano, a temporada em Puerto Escondido, foi muito intensa, com alguns swells enormes. Foi uma experiência muito positiva na minha vida, e eu puxei o meu nível de surfe de ondas grandes. Foi muito difícil pegar as bombas nos maiores dia, e eu fiquei realmente muito feliz com meu desempenho geral. Este ano, vou puxar meus limites ainda mais em Puerto, e espero pegar alguns tubassos! Tahiti time / hora do Tahiti

Tahiti is one of my favorite places in the planet, for many reasons. It is the most beautiful landscape that I have ever seen, with tall, green mountains touching the crystal clear ocean water. But the main reason I visit Tahiti every year are the barrels at Teahupoo. It is the most challenging wave in the world, and that barrel is one of the reasons I became a professional surfer. The drop is incredible, and the sensation of pulling under that heavy curtain of water is priceless. Here are some photos of Teahupoo, by Bidu Correia (bidudigital.com.br).

 Tahiti é um dos meus lugares favoritos no planeta, por muitas razões. É a paisagem mais bonita que eu já vi, montanhas verdes e altas tocando a água cristalina do mar. Mas o principal motivo que eu visito todos os anos Tahiti são os tubos em Teahupoo. É a onda mais desafiadora do mundo, e aquele tubo é uma das razões que me fez tornar um surfista profissional. Barrel feast at home / Festival de tubos em casa

As it could not be any different, I spent the month of May 2010 in one of the best beaks in the world. That happens to be right at my backyard, Barra da Tijuca Beach, Rio de Janeiro. This was a magical day, and I traded barrels with some of my best friends in the world. Surf all day long, at your home break, with only your friends out, with one of the best water photographers in the world is just an amazing feeling. The photographer Pedro Tojal (www.zonasurf.com.br) captured those amazing images. It was an unforgettable day, and I can't wait for the month of may, at home!!!

Como não poderia ter sido diferente, passei o mês de maio de 2010, em um dos melhores picos de surf do mundo. Isso acontece bem no meu quintal, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. Foi um dia mágico, e eu alternei tubos com alguns dos meus melhores amigos. Surfar o dia todo, no quintal da sua casa, só com seus amigos na agua, com um dos melhores fotógrafos aquáticos no mundo, é uma sensação incrível. O fotógrafo Pedro Tojal (www.zonasurf.com.br) capturou imagens surpreendentes. Foi um dia inesquecível, e eu mal posso esperar para o mês de maio, em casa!
